In 2013, the Swiss, family-owned House of Gübelin founded the Gübelin Academy to share the company's expertise and passion for coloured gemstones. On 16th September 2018, during the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, the Gübelin Academy invites its students and former students to celebrate the anniversary with an alumni event. At this event, the first Coloured Gem Professional graduation ceremony will also take place.

Founded in 2013

Coinciding with the hundred year anniversary of the birth of one of the world's most celebrated gemmologists, Eduard Josef Gübelin, the Gübelin Academy was founded in 2013 in Hong Kong. Inspired by his intellectual heritage, the Gübelin Academy aims to share the company's longstanding expertise in imparting passion, emotion and knowledge in the fascinating world of coloured gemstones.

Celebrating 5 years of gemmological education

In its base in Hong Kong and further major Asian metropolises as well as in Switzerland the Gübelin Academy offers a unique set of gemmological courses to professionals, enthusiasts and connoisseurs. Created as a series of modular programmes with increasing levels, courses range from several hours to several weeks. Students will be rewarded with a Gübelin Coloured Gem Professional certificate while studying emeralds, rubies and sapphires, whether beginning with the basics or mastering the advanced history, gemmology and psychology behind the most precious and colourful commodities in the world.

Coloured Gem Professional

Gübelin Academy offers an education encompassing all these fascinating and complex aspects of coloured stones, balancing chemistry with history, and science with stories. The Coloured Gem Professional is created as a series of modular programmes with increasing levels from 1 to 3. Through knowledgeable, passionate and inspiring teaching, Gübelin Academy classes focus on the practical and emotional aspects of emeralds, rubies and sapphires.

Level 3

In 2018, Gübelin Academy has launched successfully the first Coloured Gem Professional Level 3 class in Hong Kong. In this course students deepen their knowledge on gemstones that they have acquired in Level 1 and Level 2 classes. They learn how to handle, study and assess emeralds, rubies and sapphires. After successful completion of the five-day-class, students are rewarded with a certificate of attendance. The culmination of the Coloured Gem Professional programme.

Alumni event and the first ever graduation ceremony for Gübelin Academy graduates

To celebrate the five year anniversary and the completion of the Coloured Gem Professional programme, Gübelin Academy invites its students, former students and holder of the Coloured Gem Professional certificate to an alumni event. This offers professionals and enthusiasts an ideal opportunity to meet and share latest industry and gem news. The event offers also the stage for the first Coloured Gem Professional ceremony. Students who successfully passed the Level 3 class will be rewarded with the Coloured Gem Professional certificate.
