On August 13, 2018, two research projects from The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) won honorable mention awards at Thai Research Expo 2018 held by the National Research Council of Thailand.

The first research entitled "The Study of Gem Treatment by Heating with Pressure" focuses on the qualification of sapphires that had passed through the treatment process. For this research, GIT used advanced equipment to examine sapphires sold in the market in order to set accurate and clear analysis system.

On the other hand, the research project entitled "Creative Thinking and the Implementation for the Business Development of the Gemstones and Jewelry Community Enterprise of Kanchanaburi" aims to apply local knowledge in developing new styles of jewelry that will strengthen the local economy and uplift the quality of life for locals, leading to value-added sustainable economy for the community and the country.

"These two research projects show our strong commitment to the development of the country. GIT carries out a variety of research projects on gem and jewelry innovation, which can be turned into opportunities for businesses," Ms Duangkamol Jiambutr, the director of GIT said.
