Mining Indaba has assembled an outstanding array of global and regional industry leaders and experts for the 2016 Investing in African Mining Indaba – 8-11 February, Cape Town, South Africa.

A summit on sustainability and responsible sourcing for the international jewelry industry will take place in New York City from March 10-13, 2016. The proposed venue for the event is being provided by the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).

In 1958, a ruby and sapphire deposit was discovered about 145 kilometers south of Malawi’s capital of Lilongwe on Chimwadzulu Hill. Although this is one of the oldest known gemstone deposits on the African continent, very little has been published about its production in recent years.

A team of GIA(Gemological Institute of America) field researchers journeyed to Zambia to collect emerald samples for the Institute’s gem identification database and to document the current state of Kagem, the world’s largest emerald mine, located in the Kafubu mining area.

TIt is the more mountainous areas of Montana that have yielded a fortune in gold and silver since the first substantial deposits were discovered in the early 1860's. Copper was discovered soon after in the hills of Butte producing 210,000,000 pounds of it in 1896 from a mere five square mile patch of earth.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena recently has given instructions to relevant officials not to let any foreign national or a foreign company to mine gems in Sri Lanka. The President said the government is not ready to endow the local gem industry to foreign companies and instructed the officials to refuse requests for gem mining.
